Moments of Joy

Little moments, lots of joy. Here are my little wins from the week!

While developing this blog, I have had a lot of thoughts about what I wanted it to be. I have a lot of interests, and there are a lot of directions I could grow in. In an attempt to narrow things down, I tried to think seriously about what my personal strengths are. And when I say strengths, I mean Strengths with a capital S. If you’ve spent any amount of time with me, you’ve probably heard me talk about Clifton Strengths. I could write an entire extra blog post about Clifton Strengths and how much I love learning about my own and everyone else’s. All you need to know right now, though, is that my #1 strength is Positivity.

Upon diving into that train of thought, I wondered how my strength of positivity could help guide me and make my perspective unique. I also had a lot of thoughts about that. In the end, I decided to create and share a collection each week of the things that brought me joy. The thing about recognizing joy that I think we all struggle with the most is putting unfounded parameters on it. We expect joy out of big, important milestones. Or out of moments that others are witnessing or would relate to. But it’s my belief that joy exists anywhere you choose to see it.

If you’ve spent any time learning about any kind of content creation, you’ve probably heard that you need to stick to your content topics if you want the algorithms to be on your side. So how does my random collection of bright moments throughout the week align with my main content topics? It doesn’t tbh. But ultimately, sharing happiness brings me joy. So the algorithm can like me or not and it is what it is.

Without further ado, here are the things that brought me joy this week. My Something(s) Sunny, if you will.

Little moments, lots of joy. Peach parfait, morning walk, strawberry jam, puppy pic

Something Sunny

  1. Morning Coffee – I visited my parents last weekend, and we started Sunday morning sitting on the patio drinking coffee together. The weather was beautiful, the coffee was hot, and the company was unmatched.
  2. Peach Parfait – On Wednesday I cut up a peach and ate it with yogurt, granola, and honey. The peach was sweet and juicy, and paired perfectly with the cinnamon in the granola. Elite summer breakfast.
  3. Morning Walks – I took my dog for a walk before work twice this week. My goal recently has been to make it to three morning Pilates classes and get in two morning walks each week, but last week I only got one walk in. I did sacrifice a morning Pilates for a morning walk this week, but…baby steps. I’ve really been enjoying making time for myself before work everyday, and I extra love that Sunny benefits from it too. Several mornings recently I’ve passed by a heron on our walk around the pond, which is also fun.
  4. Strawberry Jam – Need I say more? I had a handful of strawberries left in my fridge that were all getting a little too mushy to eat alone. I happened to see Tess Gigone making peach jam on tiktok this week, so I decided to give it a try with my strawberries for breakfast this morning. It was amazing.
  5. Puppy Pics – Four years ago today I got Sunny. So of course all 300 pictures I took of her that first day showed up in my memories this morning. I happily and tearily tapped through each one. She was so tiny and it’s crazy how it feels like that was yesterday and so long ago at the same time.

Looking through these, it seems like a lot of things make me happy in the morning. Which, as a lifelong non-morning person, hurts to come to terms with.

My hope is that these lists show you that you can make a big deal out of little things if you want to. Life is made up of a lot of unassuming happy moments, don’t let them pass you by 🙂
